I Won!

This past weekend was our Annual Quilt show. I entered four large quilts and my Fractured Log Cabin wallhanging. I won a ribbon and prize money. Gotta love that, as I have never before entered anything in a quilt show or won anything. The wall hanging is meant to hang long and narrow, but they had it hung the other way as that was the space they had.

So now I have some extra money that will go into my savings account because I am saving to get a computerized system for my Millenium quilting machine.

It was a great Quilt show and I heard attendance was up from last year.

I coordinate our guilds Charity group, so we had a booth set up and there were lots of helpers to sell tickets on our raffle quilt. The proceeds from the raffle quilt go towards purchases of supplies to make comfort quilts that we give to those in need.

The other pictures are our guild booth with the raffle quilt in the background. It is the one with the big star in the center. The other quilts are comfort quilts our group has made. We meet every other Wednesday to work on quilts and then I take them home and quilt them all up on my longarm.
Today I am working on some purses, as I will be having a booth at our summer market in Red Deer every Saturday morning this summer, so need to get lots of things made for that. Once I get a good selection made I will post some pictures.
Everyone have a great day! Wanda

Think Pink-no it is not Valentines today.

Well I just spent a half hour typing a post and then the entire thing just vanished.........what do you make of that? So here I am starting over and I feel silly like I am just repeating myself.

In honour of National Quilting day I plan to spend the entire weekend either at my sewing machine or quilting machine.

Here is a moldy, oldey that I started in 1986! I should be done it in a few hours. I am using the pattern Double Plumes and it is one of my favourite pantos, but it takes a long time to stitch out. I like heavy quilting on my quilts because I think it gives them a nicer feel and I love the effect I get after I wash them........more vintage looking.

There is a close up of the quilting. There are some funny old fabrics in this one, but it will probably end up as a quilt to use in the camper anyway and it will keep someone very cozey. I have the binding made and ready to sew on after the quilt is off the frame, so I am thinking that by Monday I can call this one finished. Yah!

My quilt guild has a UFO challenge every year with another guild. Last year we lost and had to host the other guild at a luncheon, which was fun and we all enjoyed the show & tell and I put on a trunk show as well.

But this year I am really going to work hard at completing some of my over 100 UFOs (unfinished objects for any of you wondering).

And speaking of UFOs..........I own a yahoo group mailing list called Queen of UFOs and we just had our 5th birthday as a group last November, so we had made a fair amount of progress on working on those old projects over the years. We have a yearly challenge and quarterly draws and a final big prize at the end of the year goes to someone who's name is drawn randomly and they get lots and lots of FQs and a few other goodies as well. Why don't you drop in and join the group if you have the same problem of UFOs hiding in your house.
Well, back to quilting. Everyone have a great day! Wanda

Tardy Thursday

That is me.......tardy (as in late, so far behind that I think I am ahead of myself!)

I did manage to get my wallhangings quilted and bound the other day. One got delivered on time to the Quilt Show committee and I forgot to take a picture of it first, so can't show you that one. But it is the same as the multi color one, only 7 blocks long and measures 16" x 60".

But I took photos of 2 others that are the same pattern.......Fractured Log Cabin. As you can see I am not quite done handstitching the binding on the one, but hope to do that today. These measure 16" x 36".

My sister has already claimed the black/white/red combo as she thinks it will go perfectly in her living room. I on the other hand am not sure I want to part with it.

I will be teaching this at a couple of places in the next few months so I need to make one more yet to have enough samples to go around. The next one I am making will be 9 blocks, set 3x3 with pieced borders. Can't show you that one yet as it is still in the planning stages......as in piles of FQ's on my cutting table.
I am off to play catch up and do some much needed housework.
Have a great day! Wanda

A Day late and a Dollar Short

Well I finished the second Saturday Sampler quilt for my local quilt shop yesterday. Forgot to take a picture while it was loaded on Milly, but remembered to snap one after I took it off the longarm and it was draped over the rollers while I trimmed threads.

I am so glad to be done these two quilts, although I think they both turned out stunning.

I designed and made the quilts, then custom quilted them. I also did step by step photos of all the block construction and wrote up directions and did up the block kit instructions. So it has been a very long process.........but now I am done, done and ready to move on to something else.

The quilts have both been delivered to the LQS and that has freed up some space in my sewing area.
After getting home last night I loaded and quilted 2 wallhangings and will bind those today and post about them later. One of them is going in the Quilt show in Red Deer, so I have to have that one bound and a label on today, so that I can deliver it tomorrow to the show committee along with four other large quilts that thankfully are all completed and ready to go.
So I am off to cut and sew binding and will try to get back on later today so you can see the finished products.
Have a great day! Wanda

What is on Milly Today

Actually, it is off Milly and just draped over the rollers, but it is finally done.

This is a Block of the Month Sampler for my local quilt shop. I designed and made the quilt and then quilted it. The gal who owns the shop will attach the binding.

The quilt is huge and I am making another in Dusty Pink/Green colorway in the same pattern. Just need to add the corner triangles and borders and that one will be ready to quilt as well.

Isn't it amazing what quilting does to the final look of a quilt...........this is always my favourite time.........taking the quilt off the machine to see the final results of all that work. And this one is stunning!

Here are some close up pictures of the free motion quilting I did in the big white spaces.

I call it "Wandering"..........seeing as how my name is Wanda and free motion is my favourite style of quilting.

There is tons & tons of stitch in the ditch on this quilt as well. Glad to be done this one, but looking forward to doing the other colorway as well.

Busy Wednesday & Quilting Special of the Month!

I am very new to blogging so please bear with me as I find my way around.

I am off today to my Quilts of Comfort charity group. Have to get there early and set up as I am the group coordinator. Our group gets together two Wednesday's a month to work on quilts that will be given to persons in need of some comfort.
I quilt most of the finished quilts on my longarm and then one of the other gals will bind them.

Now on to the Special of the Month.
I have decided to offer a Quilting Special to the readers of my blog. There will be a new special each month so watch for those.

The March Special is................"Free Return Shipping"

Here is how it works............you send you completed quilt top along with backing and batting to me to be longarm quilted. If you prefer I can purchase batting of your choice and add the cost to your final bill. I accept credit cards for payment.

For the month of March I will pay the return shipping to send your quilt back to you.
Just email me for further details.
warendt@telus.net

Now my limit of quilts I can manage to get done in each month is limited to 15 or so......depending on the sizes of the quilts and how complex the quilting is on each.
So if you have a quilt to send to me, don't leave it to the last minute okay. I don't want anyone to be dissapointed and not get in on this month's special.

Well, I have to go get ready to leave, but will try to post again later. I can see I have lots of things to learn about setting up my blog and posting pictures and such.

Everyone have a great day. Wanda
